Middle Eastern Markets and Indonesian Industrial Expansion

Besides energy and capital, the Middle East is also an important market for Indonesian products. Economic growth in the region opens up opportunities for Indonesian exports in the halal food, halal pharmaceutical, textile, building materials, and construction services sectors. Within the framework of Soemitronomics, this kind of market expansion is crucial because it increases the scale of national production. Export-oriented industries will more quickly absorb technology, increase productivity, and strengthen Indonesia's position in the global value chain.

Managing Geopolitical Risk

Conflicts in the Middle East often impact global trade routes, particularly international energy and logistics routes. From a development economics perspective, this risk should not be ignored. Countries need to build supply chain resilience through diversifying trade routes, strengthening national logistics, and developing domestic industries that reduce dependence on strategic imports. This way, geopolitical turmoil will not immediately shake the foundations of the national economy.

Pragmatic Economic Diplomacy

Soemitro's thinking also emphasizes that international economic relations must be pragmatic and oriented toward national interests. Indonesia needs to maintain balanced economic relations with various regions of the world, including the Middle East, East Asia, Europe, and the Americas. This approach allows Indonesia to capitalize on global opportunities without becoming caught up in geopolitical rivalries between major power blocs.

The Path to Industrial Sovereignty

When viewed strategically, the dynamics of the Middle East actually offer significant opportunities for Indonesia. Energy from the region can support national industrialization, petrodollars can provide financing for industrial development, and regional markets can expand Indonesia's manufacturing exports. However, all of these opportunities can only be exploited if the country has a clear and consistent development direction. This is where the relevance of Soemitronomics becomes increasingly apparent. National industrialization requires a combination of state leadership, partnerships with the private sector, and intelligent integration with the global economy. The Middle East may be beset by geopolitical storms, but for Indonesia, these storms also bring a wave of opportunities. With the right strategy, the region can become a stepping stone for Indonesia to achieve industrial sovereignty and national prosperity.
