Through the Treaty of Turin between Emperor Napoleon III and King Victor Emmanuel II of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont-Savoy in 1860, the Savoy County of Nice (Italian-Alpine) was taken over and became a French possession. This event is known negatively as the French annexation of Nice, which was actually a reward for French assistance in the Italian unification movement.

From an Indonesian perspective, this was the result of 19th-century geopolitical diplomacy, not an annexation, nor a move of greedy power (Libido Dominandi).

In the mental horizon of 14th-century France, ravaged by the 100-year war with England and the Black Death, Majapahit appeared from afar as a prosperous, stable, and powerful Eastern spice empire, a stark contrast to the suffering of the French people.

World scientists call it: Gens calamitatibus oppressa (a nation oppressed by disaster). The sun of Majapahit, in the contemporary European imagination, resembles the light of human civilization on the Eastern horizon.

Gemah ripah loh jinawi (prosperous prosperity) was not simply due to its natural resources and circumstances, but rather a direct result of the strong dual leadership of Maharaja Hayam Wuruk, who excelled in cosmic legitimacy and harmony, and Mahapatih Gajah Mada, who excelled in political and economic organization. The combination of these two powers made Majapahit a brilliant nation-state in the 14th century in the Eastern Hemisphere, encompassing Southeast Asia for 234 years.

For more than two and a half centuries before Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas, Majapahit had brilliantly established Southeast Asia as a unified mandala. Meanwhile, France was busy geopolitically defending itself against British dominance.
