SENAYANPOST - AM Hendropriyono spoke out about Donald Trump's decision to set a 32 percent import tariff on Indonesian products.
According to Hendropriyono, the imposition of such import tariffs is indeed very difficult, and therefore, the Indonesian people must support Prabowo Subianto's strategic move.
The move to join BRICS is a smart move in the face of US tariffs.
"This is indeed very difficult. So, we must support Mr. Prabowo with his smart, appropriate move to BRICS," said Hendropriyono.
The BRICS entry strategy serves Indonesia's national interests.
Hendropriyono stated that if Indonesia increases its tariffs by 10 percent, as Trump threatened, it will be even more difficult.
"Because 32% threatens, for example, 10%, which would be 42%. Wow, that would be a problem for us. Well, if we, the people of our nation, are truly united, united with the commander-in-chief, with our national leader, the President, we should be able to help, by making a small sacrifice," he added.
Hendropriyono also highlighted the emerging issue of the nine dragons that dominate the economy being threatened with being replaced by new ones.
He believes it's better to add to them than to reduce them, so Indonesia will be stronger.
"I think it's fine, but the nine dragons shouldn't be destroyed. Because they have the power of a multiplier effect, a multiplier effect that can drive a truly powerful informal economy," he said.
Hendropriyono believes the added value would be better if the previous nine dragons were not removed.
"So, that means the added value is extraordinarily large," he concluded. (*)
