SENAYANPOST — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the leaders of four other ASEAN member countries communicated to discuss the response to the reciprocal or mutual tariff policy from the United States (US) announced by US President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, April 2, Trump announced the implementation of a minimum tariff of 10 percent on all imports of goods from around the world, including Indonesia which is subject to an import tariff of 32%.

In dealing with this, Prabowo conducted a teleconference and exchanged views with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

"Today I had the opportunity to have a telephone discussion with the leaders of ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore, to gain views and coordinate a joint response to the issue of reciprocal tariffs by the United States (US)," said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on his Instagram account @anwaribrahim_my, quoted Saturday (5/4).

He also said that the ASEAN Economic Ministers' meeting to be held next week will follow up on discussions regarding the best solution to deal with the implementation of the US reciprocal tariffs.

"God willing, the ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting next week will continue to discuss this issue and find the best solution for all member countries," he continued.

Meanwhile, the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US on ASEAN countries are Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam 24%, the Philippines 17%, Singapore 10%, Cambodia 49%, Laos 48%, Vietnam 46%, Myanmar 44% and Thailand 36%.
