SENAYANPOST - A large-scale movement will be carried out by online motorcycle taxi drivers, online taxis, and couriers on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
They plan to turn off the application, aka off bid, as a form of protest against the work system that is considered unfair.
The Chairperson of the Indonesian Transport Workers Union Lily Pujiati, stated that this action will take place nationally and involve drivers from various digital platforms.
"Indonesian Transport Workers Union calls on online motorcycle taxi drivers, taxi, and courier drivers to carry out a mass off bid action (turn off the application) throughout Indonesia wherever the platform company operates," said Lily in a written statement released on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Not only turning off the application, the drivers are also scheduled to take to the streets to voice their demands.
"And we will take to the streets on May 20 together with the labor unions and communities of ojol, taxi, and courier drivers," added Lily.
One of the main points of contention is the large cut taken by the platform from the drivers' work.
Lily said the cut could reach a very high figure, even up to 70 percent.
"Drivers only get a wage of IDR 5,200 from their work delivering food. In fact, customers pay the platform IDR 18,000. From here it is clear that the platform benefits by squeezing the sweat of ojol drivers," she said.
Indonesian Transport Workers Union demanded that the cut not only be reduced significantly, but also eliminated altogether.
They also asked for clarity on fair and equal rates for all types of services, be it passengers, goods, or food.
"So we support the demand for a 10 percent cut and we even demand that the platform cut be eliminated. In addition, there must be clarity on passenger, goods, and food rates that are equal and fair," she said again.
Indonesian Transport Workers Union also expressed objections to the priority order system that only benefits some drivers.
They highlighted programs such as GrabBike Hemat, slot and aceng in Gojek, and hub in ShopeeFood which are considered to create discrimination.
