SENAYANPOST – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto revealed that he had held talks with United States President Donald Trump regarding trade tariffs. He said the negotiations were tough, but an agreement was finally reached.
"I spoke with President Donald Trump. Thank God, after tough negotiations, we finally reached an agreement," Prabowo said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on Wednesday (July 16).
Prabowo explained that during the process, both parties demonstrated a mutual understanding of each other's interests.
As a result of the negotiations, the United States lowered trade tariffs on Indonesian products from 32% to 19%.
"The tariff was reduced from 32% to 19%. I'm still negotiating; I can tell you that he [Trump] is quite a tough negotiator."
Prabowo emphasized that the entire process was carried out with careful calculation by the government, taking into account the interests of the people and the protection of workers in Indonesia.
"We have calculated everything, we have discussed everything. We also consider that what is most important to me is my people. What is important is that I protect our workers."
"Although we also have a stance. This is our offer, we cannot afford to give more. But what is important to me is that our workers are safe," he continued.
On the same occasion, Prabowo also expressed his confidence in Indonesia's economic resilience in facing global dynamics.
"And I am very optimistic that our economy is in strong condition, in good condition. So whatever happens, we will be strong," Prabowo said.
Prabowo also revealed plans for a visit to the US in the near future. According to him, a meeting with Trump is likely to take place in September or October 2025.
"Maybe around September, October," Prabowo said.
However, Prabowo joked about the possible agenda he would share with Trump during the visit, particularly if he invited him to play golf.
"But I'd be a bit scared if he asked me to play golf," Prabowo said.
