SENAYANPOST - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono responded to the attitude of the G7 countries defending Israel in the midst of the conflict with Iran.

In a press conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Sugiono considered that the attitude of the G7 countries would actually worsen the situation.

"We did not expect this situation at all, it would actually worsen the situation. We don't know when it will stop like this," said Sugiono.

"Once a war starts, we don't know when and how it will stop," he added.

Furthermore, Sugiono highlighted that the Israel-Iran conflict has made civilians the victims.

Regarding Indonesia's attitude regarding the conflict, Sugiono said that Indonesia has consistently contributed to realizing peace in the world.

"That's why we hope for wisdom so that there are peaceful steps to be able to reduce tensions," said Sugiono.

Separately, previously in a statement by the leaders of the G7 countries, Israel had the right to defend itself and reaffirmed its commitment to the country's security from Iranian attacks.

"We, the leaders of the G7, reaffirm our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself," read the statement of the G7 countries at the summit in Canada, as reported by Reuters, on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The G7 meeting in Canada took place on June 15-17, 2025, attended by seven permanent member countries, namely: the United States (US), Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

The G7 countries are also known to have expressed concerns about the potential for Iran to possess nuclear weapons.

"Iran is a major source of regional instability and terror. We have consistently emphasized that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons," said the joint statement of the G7 countries.*
